THEORY BEHIND CALCULATIONS:

FOR METHOD1 (Mass / Mass): Based on the ratio of solute mass to total mass.

Cppm = 1 000 000 × msolute / (msolvent + msolute)

Where msolute = mass of solute, msolvent = mass of solvent.


FOR METHOD2 (Mass / Volume): Based on solute mass per litre of solution.

Cppm = msolute (mg) / Vsolution (L)  (1 mg/L ≡ 1 ppm)

Where Vsolution = total volume of solution in litres.


FOR METHOD3 (Volume / Volume): Based on solute volume fraction.

Cppm = 1 000 000 × Vsolute / Vsolution

Where Vsolute and Vsolution are in the same units (e.g. mL).


FOR METHOD4 (Mole / Mole): Based on solute mole fraction.

Cppm = 1 000 000 × nsolute / (nsolvent + nsolute)

Where nsolute and nsolvent are in moles.


FOR ALL METHODS: Percent (%) = Cppm / 10 000
